Job Description



I. General Summary

Under general direction, assumes a supervisory role for assigned UMMS Critical Care Transport team members and responsibility for daily operations of the team. Serves as a resource for questions and problem solving as appropriate. Identifies areas of improvement, cost savings and works with staff to facilitate the necessary changes. 


II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
  1. Oversees and is responsible for the assigned critical care transport team members to include performance appraisals, mentoring, and coaching.
  2. This role will have a provide input into the development of continuing education initiatives and onboarding educational and orientation programs in accordance with Accreditation Standards of the Commission of Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS). 
  3. Provides overall supervision, training and evaluation in accordance with system and departmental policies and procedures.
  4. Interviews and recommends hiring of staff.
  5. Conducts annual performance evaluations of assigned staff, recommends disciplinary measures and implements when directed. Serves as a staff resource.
  6. Promotes professional development of staff.
  7. Ensures policies and procedures are understood and followed. 
  8. Acts as a liaison with nursing, quality management, applicable hospital departments and other related services or committees.
  9. Actively participates in and leads discussion of purchasing needs, quality results and patient feedback, problem solving and development to improve quality of care and service as assigned. Follows up and supports efforts of colleagues to implement improvement action plans.
  10. Takes a proactive approach to addressing potential problems with patient management specific to critical care transport.
  11. Collaborates with leadership on long- and short-term planning. Facilitates change within department/unit to meet organizational goals.
  12. Creates, implement, and/or lead performance improvement projects.

III. Patient Safety

  1. Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives.
  2. Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
  3. Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
  4. Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge.

Qualifications



Education and Experience

1. Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, 

2. BSN required; MSN or related Master's degree in healthcare preferred

3. Active certification 

4. Active BLS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Demonstrated ability to independently manage programs, staff, and projects.
  2. Demonstrated leadership abilities, including collaborative, consultative and coaching skills.
  3. Knowledge of policies and procedures related to emergency situations, discipline and disaster plans as needed for resolving administrative and clinical matters.
  4. Ability to deliver various educational programs to the off-shift nursing staff related to nursing care and nursing care standards, legal principles, CPR, etc.
  5. Ability to respond, investigate, identify and problem-solve regarding issues related to administrative and clinical matters that require immediate and decisive action.
  6. Ability to manage staff related to personnel issues such as absenteeism, tardiness, performance standards and to take the appropriate action in consultation with leadership.
  7. Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patient families, departmental units, other clinical staff on all essential matters and to instruct and evaluate nursing staff.
  8. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient populations(s) served. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs. Provides the care needed as described in the unit/area/department policies and procedures.
  9. Ability to use computer systems in order to manage patient information.

  • Pay Range: $47.00 - $70.54
